Updated Information Regarding WIGS Please join your child’s teacher on Thursday evening, May 18th for W.I.G.S. Part III (Wildly Impressive Goal Setting). During these sessions, you will learn how you can help your child prevent the "summer slide", as well as help prepare your child for next school year! Please know you did not have to attend previous sessions to join us for WIGS Part III! We will offer two sessions to provide our parents with the opportunity to visit more than one teacher (if needed): Session 1: 6:00 – 6:45 PM Session 2: 6:45 – 7:30 PM We will also take time to recognize and celebrate the progress your child made towards reaching his/her WIGS SMART goal(s). You are NOT going to want to miss out on this event! Note: Staff members will be on site to supervise PSE students only while parents attend sessions. Dear Parents,
We are in the final stretch! Your child has just over one month of elementary school remaining, and we are looking forward to the culminating activities that are planned. Below you will find information and dates of some important events. The fifth grade promotional ceremony will take place on Friday, May 19th beginning at 8:30 a.m. Students should dress up (no jeans or shorts, Sunday best) and wear any combination of black and white. The ceremony will be followed by a celebration in the cafeteria. You are able to check out your child once the ceremony is over. We will need assistance with the laying of the ‘red carpet’ and with decorating the gym and cafeteria on Thursday, May 18th beginning at 2:45 p.m. Please indicate if you are able to help out with this time honored PSE tradition. Monday, May 22nd, is fifth grade day. The students will be treated to a day of fun and games, as well as a cook out. Students are able to bring beach chairs, towels, and family games (e.g. Frisbees, bats/balls) for the day. However, students are responsible for their own belongings, including any and all electronic games. We are in need of volunteers to help with the organization and running of the day. In particular, we need volunteers to assist with setting up and supervising the games, food preparation, grilling hamburgers, and helping to serve. If you are able to assist with the day’s activities, please contact your child’s teacher, or stop by in the morning. Activities will begin around 9:00 a.m. and last until 1:15 p.m. You may check out your child at the conclusion of the day. We are also requesting donations of food and drink items for 5th grade day. All non-perishable items can be given to your child’s homeroom teacher before the date. Visit the link at Sign Up Genius to indicate which items you are able to donate: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0d4ea9a622a0fa7-5thgrade. We will also accept monetary donations, payable to 5th Grade Activities, due by May 5th, 2017. Please be reminded that the school will follow the early release schedule on Tuesday, May 23rd, and Wednesday, May 24th, which is the last day. All students will be dismissed at 12:15 p.m. Please note that these dates have also been set aside for retesting students who do not meet the standards on the Georgia Milestones in reading and mathematics. We thank you for all that you have done to support the fifth grade team this year, and we are looking forward to these final memorable days as we prepare to send the students onto middle school. Sincerely, Fifth Grade Team Please save the date for WIGS Part II. Our next WIGS session will take place on January 19, 2017 from 6-7:30 (7:30-8:00 will be designated for parents with more than one child to visit their other child's classroom). During WIGS, teachers will share students' most recent assessment data and provide an in-depth coaching session on how to interpret your child’s data based on overall classroom performance and district-wide assessments. Parents will be provided with strategies and tools to help support learning at home. Together, parents and teachers will set individual SMART goals for their students. Be sure to mark your calendars now!
Dear Parents,
Next Wednesday, October 26th is our field trip to Lassiter High School to hear The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra perform. We will leave at 10:45 and return by 1:30. Since fifth grade will be out of the building for Dress for Success day on Wednesday as part of Red Ribbon Week, our students will be dressing for success on Thursday in place of pajama day. Hello everyone,
Please come out tonight and support our PSE School Foundation at Zaxby’s on Brownsville Road from 5-8pm. We get 10% of ALL sales from 5-8pm and these funds will support our Arts Integration program. Please encourage your students, families, and friends to attend (even if they are just rolling through the drive-thru). There will be raffles and games. Costumes are optional, but should be appropriate. EVERY STUDENT WHO ATTENDS WILL RECEIVE A DRESS DOWN STICKER FOR WEDNESDAY (they have to come inside and show a receipt in order to get a sticker), so please remind your students about this incentive. Also, teachers who attend will receive a dress down pass as well. Hope to see you there! Thanks for your support! Ms.Norman |
